Marigrace began her long journey into the deep abyss of rock-n-roll at 11 yrs, playing on the east end of Long Island with her big brothers in an extended network of family and friends of great musicians and lovers of all things rock-n-roll. She moved to NYC and first onto Ludlow Street on the Loisaida at 16 years, found a roomie and big sister (Emily XYZ, poet extraordinaire), who taught her about the poetry and lifestyle that instigated a huge shift in art and culture. NYC, at this time was a scary place, only the strong survived. The danger is what she craved and her survival on these streets inspired her sounds and words. She has lived all over Alphabet City and the Loisaida since and calls these streets her home.
Performance art was her expression at this time, breaking away from the typical band concept and performing in such legendary establishments as 8BC, ABC no RIO, Limbo Lounge, Dixons Place, Bucket o’Blood, No se No, etc. Concentrating on assertion and the sounds of the streets was her main priority…living the life and surviving these streets was the challenge, and the danger was electric….it instigated a 10 year concentration of learning, so as to justifiably express her vox when ready – there was no ambition for the material world – the sole aim during these years was the desire to absorb as much of the underground as possible, in order to translate through her songs and music in her future.
Soon, her earliest dreams of a certifiable rock-n-roll “band” materialized and the assault began; regularly playing all downtown dives, bars and clubs such as CBGBomfug, Continental Divide, Sugar Reef, Lizmar Lounge, Cooler, Sine, Arlenes Grocery, Mercury Lounge etc. etc. etc., in many many bands (Gang Bang Gang, Hard Candy, Pariah, Damaged Mary to name just a few), and working with exceptional musicians such as Dave Sardy (D. Sardy), Tommy Price, Sylvan Sylvan, David J., and many many more, she was able to create the aggressive “in your face” style that has become her trademark. Her lungs took her to heights unknown and this time of great creation and wild abandon helped form the musician she has become today.
Marigrace desires and lives rock-n-roll, with all its trimmings – her wish to keep it alive has been a driving force behind her sound.
Marigrace is currently recording 4 new trax and promoting a new, great band independently. All can find her CD, “A-ssault, B-attery, C-rime and D-eath” on her website, DineenDream.com and at various distribution outlets via the internet. Please refer to her site and various links for upcoming new gigs and shows – we look forward to seeing you all there.
GLORY or DEATH……..as the future is now here.
